Culture and Respect

The term culture refers to a state of intellectual development or manners. The social and political forces that influence the growth of a human being are defined as culture.
Each country in the world has its own culture, where there are a people in some land diffidently there is a culture, lifestyle, beliefs and values. The way we communicate with other people and treat them is one of the important elements in our culture. Even if we are changed our lifestyle, clothes, way of eating and living, we can't change our value and tradition of our culture.

While am searching in ''google'' I had read some impressive examples of respecting people in different countries, and it is reflect of their culture. Indian culture treats guests as god and serves them and takes care of them as if they are a part and parcel of the family itself. Even if they do not have something to eat, they do not leave their guests with hunger. The books of Indian culture contain a lessons which taught the respecting one another. According to Indians, elders are the blessing of any family and the bless come by touching their feet.

Another example of elders respect we can recognize it from Filipino culture. The younger members of family give a lot of respect to those who are older, even though if they are older than them in weeks or months. Also, the family to them the most important thing in life and they always support their family by working hard and send for them money.

In the end, as a human we have to respect all nationalities because we may find on them amazing values that we can learn through it, and be proud of our culture as the way it is.

  3. I would like to add something to the examples that you had mentioned , in Japan respect is very important and this can be seen with the "Japanese Honorifics " and these are suffix added to the name of the person according to his age and level for example the suffix " san " is the most common honorific added to the name of the person to show respect and politeness e.g. Farah - san , there are other suffix like kun , sama , chan , sempai and others .

your topic is very interesting specially that it is very much related to the culture a person lives in , and how different respect body language differs from a culture to another .

  5. Interesting topic, Farah.
I think that the most common respect move is bowing. where ever you go, you can see people bowing their heads or shoulders to show respect all over the world.
To me, to really respect people you should keep an open mind and tolerate the differences you have with others. Being different doesn't necessarily mean that you are superior or beneath, it just means that you are unique. embrace yourself and your world, cause trust me, your world will embrace you back

  6. actually, i am admire the culture of China more than any other cultures. The dictionary defines culture as the arts, beliefs, customs, institutions and all other product of human work and thought created by a people or group.
Chinese culture is rich in all of these, and it dates back thousands of years

    Other Cultural Differences:
There are many, many other cultural differences between China and the West. Of course, differences may not be a significant when comparing China to other countries in Asia.
Here are some interesting cultural differences:

Not being a Christian country, the Chinese do not recognize the term "Bless you" or "God Bless you" when you sneeze. In China, when someone sneezes, you simply ignore it.

Say "Thank you" by tapping four fingers down on the table.

Always refill other's cups with tea or drink without being asked.

    Nice topic Farah ;)

  8. I think that some cultures won't even acknowledge you if you don't show them respect by bowing, kissing or hugging. Those gestures are the basis for respect in some places, and if you don't perform them, then they may see you as disrespectful. For example in Japan, when meeting someone very important, they should bow lower than them and pause for a moment with their head down to show respect so, if you are trying to meet someone or a group of people from a new culture, then it would be good to ask what is respectful and what isn't before you have these people thinking that you are a bad person, when really you just didn't understand their culture.
