Culture shock is temporary.

How to describe a culture shock? It's simply a common term to describe the misunderstanding and nervous feelings a person may have after leaving his own culture to live in a new and different one. When you move to a new place, you're forced to face a lot of changes and sometimes difficulties. That can be exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. You may feel sad, anxious, frustrated, and want to go home.

It's natural to have difficulty to get used to a new culture. People from other cultures (whom you'll be hanging out with and going to school with) may have grown up with values and beliefs that differ from yours. Because of these differences, the things they talk about, the ways they express themselves, and the importance of various ideas may be very different from what you are used to. But the good news is that culture shock is temporary.

  1. That may be true ..
but what do you say about a person who filter things around him , and start comparing them with his own culture , which leads to a rejection to some cultural ideas ..?
It's hard to say that " cultural shock " is temporary for everyone . It depends on how high/low the filter of s person .

  2. Yes I agree, sometimes it can take longer for some people to adjust to the new culture than others, but I do think that it is temporary. It may take some people years to accomodate, but I do believe at some point eventually people will lay down their defense mechanism and start working on interacting more at ease with the new society.

  3. I agree with that. In fact, as soon as people are done with all the fascination and admiration of the new culture, they might face culture shock, but afterwards they'll start to accommodate peacefully. Although it might take some long time to achieve that as my friend Shaima'a said, nevertheless, culture shock is temporary and eventually people can get through with it.

  4. Culture shock is precipitated by the anxiety that results from losing all familiar signs and symbols of social intercourse. These signs are the thousand and one ways in which we orient ourselves to the situations of daily life: when to shake hands and what to say when we meet people, when and how to give tips, how to give orders to servants, how to make purchases, when to accept and when to refuse invitations, when to take statements seriously and when not.
